FBI Boston Honors Daniel E. Levenson with Director’s Community Leadership Award

On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, Special Agent in Charge Ted Docks of the Boston Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) honored Daniel E. Levenson with the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA) in recognition of his partnership and dedication to preventing targeted violence and addressing hate crimes and threats to civil rights.
This award was established in 1990 to publicly acknowledge the achievements of those working to make a difference in their communities through the promotion of education and the prevention of crime and violence. Every year, one person or organization from each of the FBI’s 56 field offices is chosen to receive this prestigious award.
Mr. Levenson is the Senior Director of the Communal Security Initiative at Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston and an associate member of FBI Boston’s Mass Bay Threat Assessment Team and the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals. Through these entities, Mr. Levenson and his team engage with houses of worship and community organizations to translate today’s threat environment, strengthen security culture, and reinforce community confidence during periods of heightened concern about targeted violence and hate-motivated threats. This ongoing partnership strengthens information flow, encourages rapid reporting of threats, enhances crime prevention, and builds confidence that the FBI is present, engaged, and aligned with community safety, particularly around major holidays and large-scale events.

Through his guidance and collaboration, countless organizations are better prepared, more confident, and more connected to trusted resources,” said Ted E. Docks, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Boston Division. “The FBI is grateful for his partnership and deeply appreciative of the trust he has helped foster between the Bureau and the public. Dan’s work reflects the very best of public service, and we are proud to recognize him with the Director’s Community Leadership Award.”
In recent years, Mr. Levenson and Combined Jewish Philanthropies have worked with FBI Boston and its law enforcement partners to host a recurring annual Interfaith Security Summit bringing together people of all faiths for threat briefings, prevention-focused trainings, and discussions on best practices for incident response. He helps organizations make informed security decisions and stay connected to credible guidance when public safety concerns emerge. He consistently champions the FBI’s mission and promotes constructive engagement between community leaders and the FBI, helping expand the Bureau’s community outreach efforts.
